Almost
half of children leaving primary school can't swim well enough according to a
report by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).
The ASA say that
children should be able to swim the National Curriculum standard of 25 metres
without any help before they reach secondary school.
But many schools say
that getting you guys to the baths and back again without taking up too much of
the school day is a real struggle.
We are lucky enough to
have swimming lessons at school. Not all
children learn to swim at school. Do you
think it is important?
Try to come up
with three arguments for (reasons why children should go swimming in school
time) and three arguments against (reasons why children should not go swimming
in school time). Try to write at least 2 sentences for each reason (one to give
your reason and one to explain it). This means you should write 12 sentences in
total.
Is swimming important?
ReplyDeleteAdvantage
I think it is important because:
• The classes will learn more and get good at swimming.
• It makes us fit and healthy.
• It is not possible for every parent to take their children to the swimming pool.
• It is a team activity and we enjoy it.
Disadvantage
I think it not very important because:
• Teachers have to do extra work to take us to swimming and taking back.
• I’m feeling that I am missing my lessons in the afternoon.
• The precious time we will have like Golden Time will be less.
• Some time there is delay for coming back due to traffic.
From Soham
Soham I liked it when you said disadvantage and advantage instead of reasons for and reasons against.

Children should swim because if they fall into a river or sea they’ll drown. They can drown because they will not know how to swim. Whereas they shouldn’t go swimming in school as it will waste most of their day. Nevertheless, they should swim as it is part of sport and keeps the body moving about. If the body doesn’t keep moving, then the body will be called as lazy. The swimming teachers might push the child to much. Instead of going swimming for almost the whole day you can learn a lot. It is a big part of curriculum.

.The other risen is that I don`t think swimming is good because we mite drink the water.

If you don`t no how to swim then you dont no how to learn. if you are going to the baech and you want to see the fishes well you can`t can you because you can`t swim. swimming is good for a adlt and kid`s. It is good to do swimming in school and you don`t no how to swim and you are done practicing then you will never no how to swim. The teacher`s have to make sure you don`t drown. I think swimming is fun for me some people said that they don`t like swimming. swimming is very inportant because ti is active. swimming is active and it can also make you fit. for swimming you
Deletehave to kick your legs and put them strate. also it is good for children to learn swimming. When you swim in the water the water flotes you and your body moves and wafes. swimming is good because if you can`t swim you wont be any thing.
I think swimming is important because if you don't when you go to the beach and in the sea and you go deap you need to now how to swim. I think swimming can save your lives. Children should go to swimming during school time because the ASA say that
ReplyDeletechildren should be able to swim 25 metres before they reach secondary school.
I think that this is important because life saving schools and helps you from drowning.
I think that children should swim in school because this is a sport which helps children keep healthy and active. Also to help them grow and into strong adults.
Also it is good if children go to swimming lessons during school because you do not have to pay . To explain this answer some people might not have enough money for having swimming lessons outside of school.
The reasons that children should not go to school for swimming time is that they might not be comfortable with all the children around them. They might not feel to comfortable with all the children around them as it might be to much.
Also the might want to go to swimming classes not in school because they might feel comfortable by starting from stage one to whatever stage the end is. To explain this I would say if you are going into a school swimming class you might find that they put you on a stage and ability you are tough enough to do but sometimes you might not be comfortable with that stage.
Also you might have more time out of school to have longer swimming lessons out of school.
To explain this I would say that the child might want more swimming lesson time. KAVIN
I think swimming is important because it keeps you fit. When you swim
ReplyDeleteyou are every time in movement. It keeps you healthy because it is a
good exercise. It helps you control breathing which is good for me.
Swimming is important because if a shark is chasing you,you can swim and run away from the shark because if you don't,it will eat
you.It is good also when you go to the beach or swimming pool, you
know already how to swim.
I think one should not go to swimming at school time because it would take time to go and the lesson will be short. There's no time
for a nice wash. It's always a hurry. We need to eat our lunch quickly because we have swimming. When we go to swimming,we sometimes need to wait for the coach that sometimes arrives late.

Going to swimming in school time is good because you have an swimming instructor. They are there to guide you and talk about safety and teach you the technique of swimming. Also, if you can't swim well the instructor will give you extra help so you won't drown and even give you confidence. Lastly, another reason why it is good because you have teachers coming with you too. They come to watch the children and to keep an eye out for any danger.
ReplyDeleteIt is not good to go swimming in school time because you miss out on the education and you have to catch up with the work you've missed out. Another reason is the swimming pool would be really busy with all the children going at the same time. Children might go into the wrong group and it will be really noisy. Lastly, children will get tired easily and cold after swimming and will not be able to focus in class properly.
I think that swimming is important for example if you want to be a lifeguard you will need to learn how to swim,I think it's important that schools learn how to swim because they are also learning how to swim and getting exercise.
ReplyDeleteYou can miss out on your learning on education , Children miss out on doing homework when they get home because the have to go to sleep at a specific time,Children that need medication probably can't handle it .
I think we should be alowed to learn swiming so we dont drown. And so we could have it as a job. We should not be allowed because we mite jump in a ocean and drown. We mite be able to swim but we would notswim with waves. We should be able to swim because we can fall in deep water and drown. We should not be able to swim because we can fall over at the swiming pall and brake a bone.we should be alowed so we are fit.
ReplyDeleteby malachi
you should't start a sentence with and remember.
DeleteI think that swimming is important is because everyone needs to learn how to swim at school. Also swimming is a very good exercise it keeps you healthy and fit.
ReplyDeleteSwimming is important because it is good opportunity to learn swimming at school. In that way you can learn swimming at the same time.If we learn swimming at a young age then we should not be afraid of the water in future.
Children should not go swimming at school times because there are some studies. After swimming children get really tired and thirsty. And when they children come back from swimming they can not concentrate on their studies.

why children need to swim its in portant

1. Heart Helper
Swimming provides unparalleled cardiovascular conditioning, provided you practice consistently and with good technique. While other forms of exercise may be more effective at elite levels (such as running or cycling), incorporating swimming into a cross-training routine and pushing yourself in practice will result in overall improved fitness.
2. Balance Your Build
Swimming builds longer, leaner muscles that complement the shorter denser muscles that develop from weight training. These "swimmer's muscles" also help boost metabolism to keep calories burning longer.
3. Cross-training
Swimming not only boosts cardiovascular capacity while increasing muscle strength, but it also gives your body a break from higher-impact activities like basketball, running, and weightlifting. By creating a balanced workout routine, athletes avoid injury by allowing their body time to heal, while not forgoing daily training sessions.
4. Increased Flexibility
A heated pool relaxes muscles, increasing flexibility and enabling important stretching. Also, after intense lactic-acid-building endurance workouts (running, cycling, weights), an easy swim helps flush out toxins preventing muscle tightness and soreness the following day.
5. Strengthen Your Core
Swimming develops core body strength because it utilizes all the body's muscles simultaneously. Although 70 percent of a swimmer's effort comes from the upper body, kickboard and fin workouts can provide an excellent leg workout.
6. Endurance
Swimmers are able to swim longer than they can what they could sustain doing other activities. With the right technique, a swimmer will be able to train for longer periods of time than if he/she were running and, as a result, more calories are burned.
7. Adventure
Swimming has branched out from the darkened, indoor community pools of yesteryear. Many new health club chains offer clean lap pools, and local communities are finding renewed interest in outdoor facilities during the summer months. Seek out available natatoriums in your area (swimmersguide.com) and if you are able, locate a natural body of water (lake, ocean, pond, or quarry) and explore the joys of open-water swimming.
8. Social Outlet
Imagine meeting the man/woman of your dreams, and seeing what they look like without their clothes on for your first date! That's one benefit, at least, of joining a Masters team or triathlon training group. In addition to the possibility of romance fueled by mutual interests, team programs offer peer motivation and professional coaching to provide you with increased performance results.
9. Weight Loss
People who consistently swim strenuously enough to be out of breath when they finish and elevate their heart rate do burn calories and lose weight, says Jane Moore, M.D., a physician and active swimmer from Tacoma, Washington. The key is to push yourself a bit.
Swimming is important because it can save children's lives. For example, if a kid falls in a deep place where there is water, it has to know how to swim and float or it will sink.
ReplyDeleteYou can appreciate and see wonderful things if you know how to swim. Like going diving in the sea to see beautiful fish.
There are children who haven’t the chance to learn to swim and it’s an opportunity to go swimming at school. If your parents haven’t got the time to take you swimming or can’t teach you school is the place to learn swimming for free.
Some children can be scared of the water and need more time for them to learn how to swim. In this case, a kid can be jealous and feel bad of their friends who know how to swim.
This takes time instead of something else like science or literacy.
Going to swimming with the class in the coach and changing into their swimming costumes takes to much time.

I would like to express my opinion about positives and negatives of swimming lessons in school.
ReplyDeleteAt first,I think one minus of attending to swim is that it might cause many skin problems for kids. For example:eczema, wart or itching.
Secondly, for somebody swimming may not be hygienic to use a pool for many kids.It would not be comfortable using a pool by boys and girls together.
Thirdly, some children dislike swimming because they prefer another favorite kind of sport.Maybe for them it is not an awesome discipline of sport.
On the other hand,I would like to write about a couple positives.
One importance of the pros is that swimming is a very good exercise for children, what helps to keep them healthy.
The next point of attending to visit a pool regularly by kids is that it makes them happy.Children could enjoy themselves outside of school.
As well as helping to improve a body well, swimming at primary schools saves adults money.
In conclusion,I want to say that visiting a swimming pool by children in their schools has many more pros than cons.

I think we should be swimming because if your friend went fare and you want to go there you mite drown you are will
ReplyDeletebe dead and if they feel down then there mite not by any help .I think we should not swimming because they mite by very interested then they mite go in the sea to far then they mite by eat by a shark and if you drink water your head hart. Bartek
I think swimming is good for you because you'll see how cool it is to be swimming under water. The other reason is why swimming is good for you is that you will improve the sports you did and get more better instead of only doing sports at school. Also swimming is good for you because it's a sport and get better at a other sport.
ReplyDeleteSwimming is kind of a bit bad for you because you might accidently drink the water which is bad for you and might get sick. Also when you go home you don't have enough time to do your homework. It also might be difficult to eat our lunch quick so we don't miss our swimming.
Going swimming in school times is a good thing because:
ReplyDeleteThe class will get better a it.
We will become fit and healthy
Not everyone`s parents can take their children to the pool every single day
We can become the best at swimming
It is a team activity. It is enjoyable
we learn how to be safe in the water.
Not going to swimming in school time is a bad thing because:
We are missing assembly
We have all the time to do the other things to do
teachers have to do extra work by tacking us there and back
some times there are delay s because of trafic
I feel like I have been missing differnt types of lesons for weeks

I think going to swimming lessons at school is good for you because you can see how well your class mates are at swimming. Also, you could take challenges with your class mates and friends. You should swim because it helps you get fit by swimming. Swimming keeps your heart and lungs healthy and it improves your balance and posture. Also, you can grow in confidence from swimming. Self-confidence lets you take part in learning and it gives your abilities to do things that you`ve never done before.
ReplyDeleteI also say that you should not go swimming at school because if you are in a low group for swimming people in your class might tease you about it. If you are over confident in swimming and your strait away go to the big pool you could lose control and there could be a risk of drown. If you stay in the water too long you could get sick.

I think that children should be able to swim during school time so they can save their own and other people’s lives. I also think this as it is sort of a lesson of how to save lives. The other reason they should is that children will learn another skill. So when they are older and want to be a professional swimmer, they wouldn’t have to practise as much as the people who didn’t learn how to do this fabulous sport when they were younger. One of the last of the reasons is that some parents don’t have enough money to pay for lessons outside of school because the lessons are too expensive.
ReplyDeleteSchools might argue that children shouldn’t go during school time because it wastes time of another lesson and lunch. Plus the parents have paid for their child to do work at school not wasting their money with the children at the pool. This is also because it takes 10 minutes to get there and back. Anyway, some people go swimming out of school so they don’t need to waste other lessons. My last reason is that it costs the school money for the coach and the lessons.
These are the reasons why a child should go swimming with school or not.

for
ReplyDeletechildren learn a life saving skill from swimming to help them any
where.Children should go swimming because it is nice if thier
frinds are there to support each other. The kids should go simming
because it is good for their health and to stay fit
against
Swimming stops there learning in school(please dont stop swimming)!.
Children should not go swimming becuase it is a hazard of
drowing and getting kids in dager .children should not go swimming
for relgion reason
Arguments for:
ReplyDeleteSwimming should be taught as part of the national curriculum. This would ensure that all children have the benefit of being taught by a professional swimming instructor, who will teach the core aquatic skills needed to become competent swimmers.
Swimming lessons are challenging. Targets are set for each stage and this inspires children to achieve.
Swimming is an essential life-saving skill and being able to swim will allow you to participate in other water-based sports such as sailing, waterskiing and white water rafting.
Swimming keeps you fit and healthy and is relaxing and great fun.
I have certainly benefited from swimming lessons and over the weeks have progressed and become confident and have learned lots of skills.
Arguments against:
Swimming is time consuming. It takes up too much of the school day. Teachers need to ensure other subjects are covered during the school day.
Teachers have a huge responsibility taking a whole class swimming. It must be stressful ensuring children are safe at all times.
Children at lower levels may be under pressure to perform and keep up with children at higher levels.

Arnav what a great balenced argument

ReplyDeleteSwimming is inportant if you want to be a swimming thecher so you have to learn to swimm to teach swimming.Swimming is inportant to do because swiming is like exercise for ouer bodys for young people its easy to swim but for old people its elot harder ifa young person can't swim they need learn to swim.for kids its easy to swim but after all you need to learn after its beter for you.But its a wast of time for the thechers so children dont need to swim. All so children can drown in the water so kids shoudn't swim and its dangres because you can drown,be attaked by a shark,a water snack or be attaked by a croc or aligater.
Children should go swimming because it will keep them healthy. Also it will learn the children how to swim.If you can swim you can float in the water and stay safe in the water.Swimming is also fun and children enjoyed it. You shouldn't go swimming because you can sink and drown or die. Sometimes people forget to take off your swimming pants. If you don't dry your self you will get a cold and get ill.
ReplyDeleteI am writing about arguments for and against about swimming .We are very lucky to have swimming in our school. However some schools don’t have swimming in their school .Other people might say we
ReplyDeleteShould have swimming and others might say the opposite. In this case there will be arguments for and against.
Reasons For
Many people think every child must swim properly without support at secondary school because it is a physical sport. Not only it is fun but it keeps you healthy, fit and strong.
Reasons against
Finally I think a child is not to go to swimming because it costs extra money to buy swimming outfits, swimming goggles, etc. Also children cannot be forced if they cannot swim.

Why children should go swimming during school times.
ReplyDeleteIt keeps us healthy also it is a good exercise. It keeps us flexible which means our limbs are strong. it is better to learn at a young age. It is a great sport also it is fun. Once swimming is learnt you will never forget it. Swimming lessons learnt at school doesn't cost the parents it is available for everybody in the class. We do it during our school times even though we lose our study time because it keeps us fit. When we learn new things and we get more confident.
Why children should not go swimming in school times.
Children lose valuable time during school lessons. Some people might not be like swimming as the may be scared. The school may not have the staff to take the children. Transport has to be arranged by the school and delays in traffic. Most children find it difficult to swim in groups. When children come back from swimming they cannot concentrate on their studies.
